The Book of Matthew 14:25-33 (NIV) recounts, “Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. ‘It’s a ghost,’ they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: ‘Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.’ ‘Lord, if it’s you,’ Peter replied, ‘tell me to come to you on the water.’ ‘Come,’ he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’ Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. ‘You of little faith,’ he said, ‘why did you doubt?’ And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, ‘Truly you are the Son of God.'”

Beloved in Christ, life often brings storms that shake us, causing fear and doubt to arise within our hearts. But just as Jesus called Peter to step out of the boat and walk on water, He calls us to step out in faith, trusting Him even in the midst of life’s fiercest trials. Though the winds may blow and the waves may rise, Jesus is with us, ready to reach out His hand and catch us whenever we begin to sink under the weight of our worries.

Our Lord is ever-present, and His power is not diminished by the storms we face. When you find yourself overwhelmed by the circumstances of life, remember that Jesus is right there, walking with you. All you need to do is keep your eyes on Him, and He will guide you safely through.

For as scripture assures us in Isaiah 41:10 (NIV), “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Trust in Him, step out in faith, and know that Jesus will never let you sink. He will calm the storm and bring you to a place of peace and victory.
