The Necessity of Obedience to God

Obedience to the  Lord most High is paramount. Today, we have salvation through Christ Jesus,m because He obeyed His Father and came to earth in human body and was crucified, died and resurrected so that we may live and be justified.

Romans 5:19 speaks about the obedience of Christ ” For as through the disobedience of one man many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of of one man many will be made righteousness”

So, Christ’s obedience to the Father wiped out the curse of sin Abraham’s disobedience placed on mankind. By obeying God Almighty, Christ became a sacrifice of atonement for our sins through the shedding of his blood, to be received by faith (Romans 3:25 NIV)

By obeying God the Father and having His blood shed, Christ made salvation FREE for although all have sinned, “all are freely justified by his grace through the redemption brought that came by Christ Jesus” (Romans 3:24)

If today, the Body of Christ can cry out to God for mercy and plead the Blood of the Lamp for the forgiveness of sins, it is because Jesus obeyed God the Father.

Also, because Peter obeyed God and went to Cornelius’ house, even the gentiles received the Holy Spirit. When Peter in  3 visions saw a white sheet come down from heaven with four-footed animals and a voice asked him to get up, kill and eat them, Peter replied saying he has never eaten anything impure or unclean. Then the voice rebuked him saying ” Do not call anything impure that God has made clean” (Romans 10:15)

While Peter was still processing the meaning of the vision, three men arrived Peter’s house. These where the men Cornelius sent to go bring Peter as per the instruction from God he had in a vision. Although Peter didn’t get the reason or clarity as to why he had to follow these men to Caesarea, he simply obeyed the voice that commanded him saying “Simon, three men are looking for you, so get up and go down stairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them” (Romans 10:19-20)

When Peter arrived Caesarea and stated precinct the Good News to them, the Holy Spirit came down on those who heard the message (Romans 10:44). Even the circumcised believers where surprised that the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles, for they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God (Romans 10:45-46).

By obeying God and following those three men, Peter’s obedience fulfilled not only scripture that says Christ has not come to call the righteous, but the sinners to repentance (Luke 5:32), it also fulfills prophecy that was revealed to Prophet Joel that ” In his last days, God says, I will pour out my spirit on all people” (Romans 1:17).

For Peter obeyed the voice of God, even Gentiles received the gospel and also the promised Holy Spirit.

Obedience Takes You away from your Comfort Zone

Also, by Ananias act of obedience, God was able to use Saul (Paul) to bring the gospel of Christ to the Gentile on a mass scale. When God asked Ananias to go and restore Saul’s sight, based on his own human judgment, it didn’t seem right to restore the sight of someone who was on a mission to persecute and arrest all so called on the name of the Lord, but he obeyed God’s voice and wisdom when God said ” Go, this man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel…” (Romans 9:15).

By setting aside his own human knowledge and obeying the word of the All-knowing God, Ananias restore Saul’s sight and Saul, the prisoner of Christ was able to walk in God’s will and purpose for his life to proclaim the Word to the people of Israel, to the Gentiles far, wide and beyond and make known the redemption that the death and resurrection of Christ brought for all – both Jews and Gentiles.

Also, Peter, clearly states that that obeying God is more important than obeying man. When Peter and the apostles went about preaching the gospel of Christ, the were arrested, tortured and asked not to speak again in the name of Christ but that persecution and instruction from man didn’t stop them from obeying God. When brought before the high priest, Peter said “We must obey God rather than human beings” (Acts 5:29).

Brethren in Christ, it is important to obey the voice of the Lord our God always, even when to our human wisdom, it makes no sense. To the human mind, it probably wouldn’t make sense to point a stick at the red sea to part it, but Moses obeyed God and that was how the Israelites were freed.

Our God is not a God with limitations, our ways are not His ways. Once we understand the Almighty God we serve is, we will understand that He is always right in His judgment and wisdom. Our wisdom is foolishness in the eyes of God. So, let us harken the voice of the Lord always.

It takes faith to please/obey the Lord. The Bible says without faith we cannot please the Lord. This means our God is not delighted with them that do have faith in Him. Studying the Word can help us know the nature and power of God and build our faith. Romans 10:17 says “Consequently, faith comes by hearing the word, and the message is heard by the Word about Christ”

By building our faith through the Word about God, we put ourselves in a position to remove any thing, either doubt or disbelief that may cause us not to obey God or harken to the voice of God
